The carriage slowly lurches to a stop. I look up at the huge castle walls towering above me. Its tall stone walls seem to never end. The large iron gate with the drawbridge, already down, seems forbidding from this view. A moat surrounds the entire castle, extending at least 100 feet from the castle walls. The water looks cold and deep with a black-redish color tint to it. I think I caught a glimps of something in there. "Whatever it is, I dont feel like finding out. It's probably vicious and man-eating." I thought to myself.
As I cross the bridge, I try to ignor them, but my mind is racing with images of being ripped to shreds and eaten for breakfast. Unfortunately, the horses are too freaked out to cross the bridge, so I have to walk. Not that I dont like walking, I love to, it's just creepy and nerve-racking walking just inches from some terrifying creatures. It's also earning me some unwanted attention.
The noblemen are starting to stare at me as I cross. Some are whispering in little groups. Others are giggling and pointing in my direction. I sigh. Queen Peristal has better have a good reason for putting me through this humiliation.
As soon as I step off the bridge, I am surrounded by soldiers. The drawbridge is slowly raised behind me. A soldier from the front steps toward me and puts his hand out. I instantly recognize Danial Ferraro, head of the Seintian guard.
"Greetings, Lord Davincee." Danial greets me. I take his out-stretched hand and shake it.
"Hello, Sir Ferraro." I say back.
"I'd prefer Danial, if that's alright with you."
"Well, I'd prefer Fell, but we all don't get what we want." I reply. Danial smiles at that. "Whatever you want, Fell." He says my name sarcastically.
"Come this way. Her Majesty is awaiting your arrival." With that, Danial leads me up to the castle. We go up two flights of stairs, down a corridor to the right, down a flight of stairs to the left, and took about three more right turns. By the time the secret chamber was in sight, I was hopelessly lost.
"Are you trying to confuse me?" I ask Danial. "Yep." he replied. In a few long strides, we're at the door. Danial pauses and looks around the corridor, then he whispers in a tiny voice.
"Whatever goes on in here, you must swear to never reveal to any other soul. Do you swear it?" he asks.
Nervously, I answer, "I, Prince of Antinous, swear upon the River Styx, that I shall never tell a soul about this renedevous."
He smiles at me. "Nice wording." I smile back, and then our faces grow serious. He cracks his neck and knocks on the big, oak doors.
"Enter." A voice answers.
Danial pushes the doors open and we enter the room.
"Fell Davincee?" Queen Peristal asks from a tall throne intertwined with vines. In her arms, a small newborn sleeps.
"Yes?" I ask timidly. Queen Peristal never ceases to scare me.
"I have a favor to ask of thee."
